Temporary partial closure of Gawler rail line

Tuesday, 25 February 2025

A temporary partial Gawler rail line closure will be in place this weekend from first service to last service Saturday, 1 March, to safely allow track signalling works.

During this temporary partial closure, train services will not operate between Adelaide Railway Station and Salisbury Railway Station.

Substitute buses will service all missed stops along the line, connecting passengers to arriving and departing train services at Salisbury Railway Station.

Adelaide Metro is also running extra bus services to get eventgoers safely to and from Fringe, Festival and Writer’s Week events, fuss-free.

Trains will operate as usual between Salisbury Railway Station and Gawler Central Railway Station during the closure.

The full day temporary closure is necessary for crews to undertake signalling works in the Ovingham area, which cannot be safely undertaken with trains operating in the rail corridor or while the overhead wires are energised in this section of track.

Services will resume as normal on the Gawler line from first service Sunday, 2 March.

The timing of the rail line closure has been carefully considered to ensure minimal impact on weekday peak services.

Commuters are being encouraged to plan their journey in advance and allow some extra time as the substitute bus service will take longer than the regular train service.

Adelaide Metro apologises for the inconvenience during this temporary closure, and thanks commuters for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
