Aboriginal Traineeship Program

Are you an Aboriginal person who has just finished school or are looking for a career change?

Join our Aboriginal Traineeship Program to gain a Certificate III qualification while working with us.

After completing this program an ongoing position may be available.

Eligibility criteria

You must be an Aboriginal person aged 17 or older. We also encourage mature age jobseekers to apply.

You must not have previously worked in the public sector.

If you have completed a traineeship outside of the South Australian public sector, you may be eligible if the traineeship you completed is at a lower level.

About the program

While completing this full-time 18-month program, you will:

  • work in a range of administration or project support roles
  • be paid
  • complete a Certificate III level qualification
  • be supported to succeed through on and off the job training
  • gain valuable experience working within a government department
  • work on projects that provide value to our state
  • collaborate with future-focused professionals.

Trainees will spend one day a week completing their Certificate III over 18 months.

We encourage you to register on the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment (OCPSE)’s Aboriginal Employment Register.

Doing this means you’ll be considered for public sector job vacancies as they become available.

Regularly revisit your registration to keep your resume current.
