Our values
We are a values-driven organisation. Our shared values guide the way we work together and our attitudes at work. Our values help us to focus on how we conduct our business, and not just on the result. They provide a framework for decisions and actions, which affect the quality of service we deliver to South Australians.
- Collaboration: We work collaboratively as one team to serve our community.
- Honesty: We are honest, open and act with integrity.
- Excellence: We are committed to excellence in everything we do.
- Enjoyment: We enjoy our work and recognise our successes.
- Respect: We respect, understand and value ourselves and every person in our business.
- Safety: We ensure health, wellbeing and safety underpin our actions and decisions.
Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics for the South Australian Public Sector embodies and builds upon the principles of the Public Sector Act 2009.
The code aims to achieve the goals of the Act and good government in South Australia.
Flexible working arrangements
We support flexible working arrangements. This allows our employees to get a greater balance between their work and other responsibilities and interests.
We recognise that voluntary flexible working arrangements are important to our employees. Various family-friendly arrangements are in place within our workplace.
Some available arrangements include:
- flexi time/accrued hours
- working from home
- part-time and job share
- purchased leave.

We have programs and initiatives in place to support your health and wellbeing.

Examples
Our initiatives
Our Cultural Footprint Program helps employees to better understand and connect with Aboriginal communities through their work.
Women in DIT is our gender equality initiative and network. Our goal is to help our women advance their careers into leadership positions.
We recognise our employees' contributions and achievements through awards and celebrations.
Formal events
Events can include conferences, seminars and workshops. We provide training and development in:
- required skills that employees need for their current job
- future skills needed to support the direction we are moving towards.
Study programs
These programs could lead to skills development or a qualification. We support students to study or attend courses in varying degrees, such as fee payments and time off.
Project work
We have many interesting projects, including large infrastructure projects. These projects provide plenty of opportunities to develop project management skills.
On-the-job training and development
This can involve a mentor or colleague with expertise and considerable organisational knowledge. They can help set up learning opportunities and/or provide professional guidance.
Work-shadowing
By spending time with an expert, employees can learn about another role. This can help diversify their skill set, experience and knowledge.
Job sharing
Employees can share a role and learn more about different types of work available and from others with expertise in a similar business area.
Rotation
We have several development programs that provide a rotation of work experiences. This helps to develop skills and identify areas of interest.
Leave
Annual leave accrues at the rate of 20 working days per year (pro rata for part-time employees).
Employees are eligible for long service leave after 7 years of service with the South Australian Public Sector.
Sick leave accrues at the rate of 12 days per year (pro rata for part-time employees) and is cumulative.
Some service with other levels of government may also be recognised.
Superannuation and salary sacrificing
Super SA
Super SA administers a few superannuation schemes for South Australian public sector employees.
Members of these schemes have relatively low administrative fees compared to other funds.
Detailed information is available from Super SA.
Salary sacrifice (packaging)
Salary sacrificing is available to employees.
This allows employees to arrange their income as a mixture of salary and other benefits. Salary sacrificing may result in a reduced amount of income tax payable.
Benefits available through salary sacrificing include:
- additional superannuation contributions
- home office or work related equipment
- novated lease for a motor vehicle.
Employees must still pay any Fringe Benefits Tax liability for non-superannuable benefits.
