Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
We value the diversity of our employees. Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion makes sure:
- our workforce reflects the communities we serve
- we create a workplace culture where everyone belongs
- we strive to create a culturally safe workplace where employees can bring their fullest selves to work.
This enables us to deliver inclusive and tailored outcomes for South Australians. Learn more about working at DIT.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy
Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy 2024–2026:
- recognises our achievements to date
- sets the direction for our continued progress towards developing a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace where everyone belongs
- complements and supports the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy 2023–2026 .
Initiatives and priorities
These initiatives and priorities support us to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace.
Communities of practice
Our communities of practice are employee-led groups with an interest in key diversity areas. Our seven communities of practice focus on inclusion for:
- age
- culture and language
- disability
- gender
- rainbow allies (LGBTIQA+)
- domestic and family violence
- veteran’s and defence
Group members work together to:
- share knowledge and ideas
- create workplace initiatives
- host Departmental events.
Disability access and inclusion
We commit to promote, protect and enhance the rights of people living with disability in South Australia. Read our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2020–2024.
We collaborated with the community to develop the DAIP. The DAIP:
- lists clear and measurable actions and targets
- focuses on priority areas of the State Disability Inclusion Plan 2019-2023 that are relevant to our work.
Gender equality and respect
As a department we:
- lead by example to promote employee wellbeing
- model respect and acceptable behaviours, regardless of a person’s background or individual traits.
Respect is one of our core values and we expect all workers to live by them. We do not excuse, commit or remain silent about any form of disrespect.
Our approach
- We take a holistic approach in maintaining a safe, supportive and inclusive workplace.
- Our workplace has zero-tolerance towards violence (including gender-based violence) and unacceptable behaviours in the workplace.
- We extend workplace respect and wellbeing to our customers, clients and the community.
- We take the lead in practising gender equality and respect. This helps everyone to feel safe, supported and can thrive in their roles.
Women in DIT
We are proud to support women in our Department, particularly in leadership and technical roles. Our program celebrates and strengthens the representation of women.
As an employer of choice, we will keep improving how we attract, retain and develop women's careers.
Our priorities align with:
- the Office for Women SA’s Equality Blueprint 2023–26
- the Office for the Commissioner of Public Sector Employment’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy 2023–2026.
