Reconciliation
We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians. We value their continuing connection to land and waters.
Our vision is that this knowledge and connection is recognised, respected and celebrated.
Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- non-Indigenous people.
Embracing reconciliation is not only a commitment, but part of everything we do.
We commit to providing equal opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We do this by:
- having Aboriginal representation in our workforce
- providing opportunities for Aboriginal staff to advance their career
- ensuring our staff are culturally informed and aware
- supporting Aboriginal businesses
- participating in meaningful partnerships and engagement.
Reconciliation involves justice, recognition and healing. We must acknowledge the past and understand its impact on Aboriginal people today. Only then can we move forward together.
Reconciliation benefits all Australians. We believe that working together is the only way we can fulfil our potential as a Department.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) outlines our commitment to reconciliation.
Our current Stretch RAP will end in 2024. We are embarking on the next stage of our reconciliation journey.
