Social media terms of use
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport uses a number of social media services as part of its communications activities, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
These terms of use exist in addition to any other terms of use/service and conditions imposed by the respective social media platform, and apply to all our social media pages. By engaging with us on our pages, you agree to these terms of use.
In addition, South Australian public sector staff must also abide by the whole-of-government guidelines for the use of social media and the Code of Ethics for the South Australian Public Sector.
Our content
Our pages are here to provide information to the community about a range of our department's activities.
While we endeavour to always provide accurate content, on occasion information we post on our social media pages may be incorrect or may change.
Any promotions or competitions posted on our social media pages are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, the social media platform.
Acceptable use
We encourage discussions, questions and feedback to be posted on our social media pages. While we respect everyone’s right to their own opinions and thoughts, we ask that you always be respectful towards other users.
Non-acceptable use and content moderation
Content posted publicly to our social media pages may be hidden or removed if it is deemed to be harassment, bullying, abusive, threatening, graphic in nature, offensive, overtly sexual, nudity, racist, contains profanities, explicit, discriminatory, defamatory, intentionally misleading, fraudulent, trolling, infringing intellectual property rights, advertisement or spam, or containing personal information, or otherwise inappropriate.
Content posted privately (e.g. a direct message) to our social media pages that we deem harassment, bullying, abusive, threatening, graphic in nature, offensive, overtly sexual, nudity, racist, contains profanities, explicit, discriminatory, defamatory, intentionally misleading, fraudulent, trolling, infringing intellectual property rights, advertisement or spam, or otherwise inappropriate may not be responded to.
If you engage with our social media pages in an unacceptable way as outlined above, we may send you a message or comment reminding you of our social media terms of use, and if you continue to engage in this way we may block you. Under some circumstances of extremely inappropriate engagement, we may block you without a warning and forward your content to South Australia Police.
We attempt to moderate all inappropriate content posted to our social media pages and remove it from public view, however on occasion something that does not meet our terms of use may not be moderated or may be visible for a period of time.
Monitoring and response
Our social media pages are monitored regularly during business hours. We read all comments and do our best to respond to questions and feedback sent to us via our social media pages. Due to the large volume of comments we receive, we may not be able to get back to you quickly.
Where common topics and requests exist, our department may issue a general notification instead of responding to several individual comments.
Do not report crime or issues requiring urgent assistance via our social media accounts. We recommend contacting 000 for urgent assistance and to report a serious crime in progress, or the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 for non-urgent assistance.
Your privacy
Please do not provide personal information in public comments or posts on our social media pages. If you do this, we will endeavour to hide the comment or post. However, your information may still be visible to other users for a period of time.
We will only use your information in accordance with our privacy policy.
