River Murray floods: Bookpurnong Road update
Monday, 28 November 2022
Bookpurnong Road in the Riverland is closed to heavy vehicles between Berri and Kemp Road, to ensure the road can remain open to light vehicles for as long as possible.
Heavy vehicles (over 4.5 tonnes) are required to detour via Stanitzki Road and Sturt Highway.
The road was initially restricted to a single lane for all traffic, but has since been reopened to two lanes following a review of the impact of queuing traffic.
The Department will continue to monitor the road surface on Bookpurnong Road daily and expects that the road could be closed to all traffic within the next seven days as water continues to rise.
Traffic management staff are on-site to guide light vehicles safely and monitor traffic. Motorists are requested not to stop within the controlled section.
The Department is endeavouring to keep all roads open as long as it is safe to do so. Teams are undertaking regular assessments of Bookpurnong Road and other low-lying roads in the region.
Please drive to the conditions and be mindful of other road users and traffic controllers on site.
