Darlington asphalt works

As part of the Darlington Upgrade Project, night works will be undertaken on the South Road surface road and Ayliffes Road to install the final layer of asphalt in the locations detailed.
To safely facilitate these works, the following traffic arrangements will be in place:
4pm, Sunday, 24 May – 6am, Monday, 25 May
South Road southbound will be closed each night between Tobruk Avenue and Ayliffes Road, with the following restrictions (see Map A):
- Southbound motorists wanting to access Shepherds Hill Road or Main South Road south of the intersection with Ayliffes Road will be directed to detour via Daws Road and Marion Road
- Access to Ayliffes Road and South Road from Shepherds Hill Road northbound will not be available. Motorists will be required to detour via Sturt Road and Main South Road to then access the Ayliffes Road bridge.
8pm, Monday, 25 May – 6am, Tuesday, 26 May
8pm, Tuesday, 26 May – 6am, Wednesday, 27 May
To avoid delays through the work zone during these times, southbound motorists wanting to access Shepherds Hill Road or Main South Road south of the intersection with Ayliffes Road will be directed to detour via Daws Road and Marion Road (see the green arrows on Map A).
Emergency services and public transport will have access at all times.
Shepherds Hill Road will be closed at the intersection with Ayliffes Road for South Road southbound traffic and Ayliffes Road will be closed between South Road and Norman Street for city bound traffic, with the following restrictions in place (see Map B):
- Access to Shepherds Hill Road from South Road southbound will not be available. Motorists will be required to detour via Main South Road and Sturt Road
- Ayliffes Road and Main South Road southbound will be reduced to a single lane during these works, the traffic signals will flash amber with motorists directed by signage, barriers and traffic controllers
- Access to Ayliffes Road from South Road southbound will not be available. Motorists will be required to detour via Main South Road to undertake a u-turn on the Mimosa Terrace and Sutton Road bridge and then access the Ayliffes Road bridge
- Access to Ayliffes Road and South Road from Shepherds Hill Road northbound will not be available. Motorists will be required to detour via Sturt Road and Main South Road to then access the Ayliffes Road bridge.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.
