Car clubs shifting up a gear thanks to second round of funding
Monday, 29 July 2024
The State Government is helping fuel the growth of car clubs with the second round of the South Australian Car Club Program being awarded, helping build new clubrooms, provide essential equipment and fund much-loved community events.
The $2 million program, which is being delivered over four years, is the first dedicated grant program to support car and motorcycle clubs in South Australia. The second round of funding will see a share of $500,000 split across 59 separate clubs.
Among the successful applicants of round two is the Gawler Veteran Vintage and Classic Vehicles Club which has been awarded $100,000 to help construct a new clubroom. The building will incorporate a meeting room, library, kitchenette, workshop, storage, BBQ and carparking space.
The club has not received funding from this program before and was considered a strong applicant by the assessment panel after having successfully fundraised more than 70 per cent of the total project cost.
Driver education and safety equipment is also being revved up with the Adelaide Car Club being awarded money to help fund a youth driver program. The training will help improve the skills of young drivers and encourage broader participation in motorsport and club activities.
The Tarmac Junior Development Program Association of SA will also be able to purchase new safety gear, including safety cones, hi-vis vests, tyre pressure gauges and tool kits.
This year the Sporting Car Club of SA will celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Old Crocks Run from Victoria Park to Wigley Reserve at Glenelg. To help mark this major milestone organisers will be hosting a free family fun day on 5 May 2024.
The Mitsubishi 4WD Club SA is also introducing a Female Friendly Four-Wheel Drive Fun Day to help build confidence among its female members and improve the skills of drivers. A qualified instructor will provide training sessions twice a year, helping build an inclusive and supportive space for members.
The Adelaide Hills will also be in the spotlight as drivers cruise to Birdwood for the 20th birthday of the Australian Muscle Car Club of SA. The event will be hosted at the National Motor Museum taking more than 250 car enthusiasts on a trip down memory lane.
There are more than 200 recognised motoring clubs across South Australia, with more than 45,000 vehicles registered under the conditional registration scheme, comprising a mix of historic, individually constructed, left-hand drive and street rod vehicles. Round three of the SA Car Club Program will open next financial year.
