Construction commences for a better coastal connection
Friday, 19 May 2023
Major construction of Coast Park Stage One is underway, paving the way for increased community access to the coastline from Semaphore Park to West Lakes Shore.
Stage One incorporates a 1.3 kilometre shared-use path between Third Avenue, Semaphore Park and Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve.
The shared-use path will be approximately three metres wide with a concrete surface, providing safe and convenient access for people of all ages and abilities to walk and cycle along the coast.
The final design for Stage One considered community and stakeholder feedback and sought to minimise the impact on the dune system, native vegetation and local fauna, while maximising community benefit and reducing effects on neighbouring properties.
Construction began this week and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, weather permitting.
Stage Two of the Coast Park, which will run from Grange to Tennyson, is currently in the design phase in consultation with stakeholders.
The Coast Park initiative aims to improve community access and enjoyment of our beaches, improve connectivity and support public wellbeing through the establishment of a continuous 70 kilometre coastal shared‑use path along the metropolitan coastline.
The Coast Park initiative is jointly funded by the State Government and the City of Charles Sturt.
