Improvements to four key Augusta Highway junctions

Four junctions along the Augusta Highway between Redhill and Winninowie will be upgraded to improve road safety, efficiency, and freight accessibility.

The most significant upgrade will be the junction of Augusta Highway and Horrocks Pass Road, at Winninowie.

This will include improving the right turn lane from Horrocks Pass Road to Augusta Highway, extending the deceleration lanes for both left and right turns into Horrocks Pass Road, upgrading existing and installing new lighting, and delivering new line marking.

A northbound overtaking lane will also be constructed south of the junction, as well as an upgrade of the entry and exit to the existing rest area.

The other three junction upgrades are:

• Venning Road junction upgrade (south of Crystal Brook and north of Redhill on the Augusta Highway) – works include widening the northbound right turn lane into Venning Road, as well as installing new lighting and line marking
• Clements Road junction upgrade (south of Crystal Brook and north of Redhill on the Augusta Highway) – works include widening the left turn lane into Clements Road, as well as installing new lighting and line marking; and
• Flinders View Drive junction upgrade (north of Crystal Brook and south of Port Germein) – works include delivering a new right turn lane and left turn lane into Flinders View Drive, as well as installing new lighting and line marking.

The junction upgrades are being undertaken as part of the $190 million Princes Highway Corridor Program, jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments on an 80:20 basis.

The Augusta Highway forms part of the Princes Highway Corridor and is the key road corridor between Port Wakefield and Port Augusta, for which this section stretches 209 kilometres.

The package of works is scheduled to commence in early 2023, with completion of all upgrades expected in June 2024.
