Community feedback sought for Port Lincoln intersection upgrades
Tuesday, 11 October 2022
Port Lincoln community members are being invited to have their say on the concept designs for four intersection upgrades planned along the town’s main street.
The Australian and South Australian governments are jointly funding (80:20) the intersection upgrades in the centre of Port Lincoln, as part of the $51.25 million commitment to Eyre Peninsula road upgrades under the Roads of Strategic Importance initiative (ROSI).
The intersections to be upgraded are:
- Flinders Highway/Light Street and Lincoln Highway/Hallett Place
- New West Road/Lewis Street and Hallett Place
- Hallett Place/Liverpool Street and Adelaide Place
- Liverpool Street and Mortlock Terrace/Bligh Street.
A preliminary planning study on the intersection upgrades has now been completed, and concept designs for each upgrade have been prepared. Community and stakeholder engagement will now be undertaken to help further progress the planning and design of these upgrades.
As part of this engagement, a survey has been released today and community information sessions have been scheduled to take place on Thursday, 20 October and Friday, 21 October at the Nautilus Arts Centre on Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln. The community information sessions will be an opportunity for local community members and stakeholders to meet the project team, ask questions and provide any feedback.
Following the completion of community consultation and planning works, the design work for each intersection is expected to be finalised in late 2022, with construction works expected to commence in 2023.
In addition to the intersection upgrades, pavement renewal works will be undertaken along the main street (Lincoln Highway and Liverpool Street) and nearby locations in the centre of Port Lincoln, including the car parking bays, in conjunction with the City of Port Lincoln.
These works will be undertaken in two stages, with the first stage expected to commence in the first half of 2023 and include Liverpool Street, from Mortlock Terrace to Porter Street, as well as sections of Porter Street and London Street. The second stage will be undertaken on Lincoln Highway, from Flinders Highway to Mortlock Terrace, and will be scheduled to occur later in 2023 to coincide with the four intersection upgrades, which are also located along this section.
