Tuesday, 4 October 2022
The section of Princes Highway from Meningie to south of Millicent will soon be a hive of construction activity as a series of overtaking lane projects and junction upgrades start this month.
Acciona has been awarded a contract to deliver the latest package of works as part of the $190 million Princes Highway Corridor Upgrade, which is jointly funded by the South Australian and Australian governments on an 80:20 basis.
The package covers the section of the Princes Highway between Meningie and Tantanoola in the State’s south east, with works including:
- The construction of four new overtaking lanes – two between Meningie and Salt Creek (one in each direction) and two between Hatherleigh and Millicent, just north of Furner Road (one in each direction)
- Extensions of two existing overtaking lanes north of Tantanoola Roadhouse, between Millicent and Mount Gambier (one in each direction)
- Two junction upgrades at Furner Road, north of Millicent, and Walkers Tin Hut Road, Millicent.
These works will start in October 2022, and are expected to be completed in late 2023, weather permitting.
Additionally, the tender for the next package of works under the Princes Highway Corridor Upgrade has now been released to market.
This next package will cover the section of highway from Tantanoola to the South Australia/Victoria border.
Works proposed to be included in this next package are expected to start in early 2023 and include:
- Construction of two new overtaking lanes (one in each direction) on the Princes Highway between Mount Gambier (Myora Road) and the state border
- Extensions of three existing overtaking lanes on the Princes Highway – one near The Springs Road and Burrungule Road intersection (eastbound), one near Stringy Bark Road (westbound) and one near Kangaroo Flat Road (eastbound)
- Four roundabout upgrades in Mount Gambier at the Jubilee Highway junctions with: o O’Leary Road and Graham Road
- Suttontown Road and Sutton Avenue
- Wehl Street North and Wehl Street South
- Riddoch Highway (Penola Road).
- An upgrade at the Princes Highway junction with The Springs and Burrungule roads, between Millicent and Mount Gambier
