24-hour travel resumes on Stuart Highway

The staged re-opening of the Stuart Highway north of Glendambo is continuing with one-way, 24-hour travel permitted from tonight under the control of traffic lights. 

As of 8pm tonight (Friday 18 February), all vehicles can travel in one direction at a time at a maximum of 40km/h through the flood-affected area, controlled by temporary traffic signals.

Traffic management staff will continue to monitor restrictions and any queues, with SA Police conducting routine patrols. Please be patient and factor queues into your travel plans.

Due to flooding, some pavement defects have formed along the Stuart Highway. Some sections of the road and shoulder are damaged, which present hazards to road users until repairs are completed.

Motorists should drive to the conditions, obey speed restrictions and other work zone signage, and always watch for road workers.

The road will be assessed to determine whether it can open for two-way traffic under a posted lower maximum speed limit. Two-way traffic operation is expected late next week.
