Stay safe on the road and water this October long weekend
Thursday, 3 October 2019
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) urges road users and boaters to keep safety top of mind this long weekend when out on the road and the water to keep themselves, passengers and those around them safe.
Road users are reminded to Think! before hitting the road and plan their travel ahead of time to avoid delays this long weekend.
Motorists must be patient and attentive on our roads, keep to the speed limit, buckle up, don’t drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and take regular, planned breaks if driving long distances.
We ask drivers to think about their driving behaviours and consider the safety of all road users.
To plan your travel, get real time traffic info direct to your smartphone by downloading our Addinsight app or visiting TrafficSA at https://traffic.sa.gov.au/. Or for information about nearby speed camera locations visit https://speedcameras.sa.gov.au/.
With the weather warming up, boaters are also reminded make sure they know how to keep themselves and their passengers safe by taking some time to refloat their boating safety knowledge.
We ask boaters to remember these top five things to know before you go:
- Know what safety equipment you need, and when it expires
- Know when you need to wear a lifejacket
- Know the area where you’re boating
- Know the weather forecast, and when to recheck
- Let someone know before you go
For more tips and information to help you have a fun and safe day on the water, visit www.sa.gov.au/boatingmarine or www.ondeck.sa.gov.au.
The Department wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
