Upgraded junction of Sturt Highway and Holder Road now complete

An upgrade of the junction of Sturt Highway and Holder Top Road, east of Waikerie, is now complete, improving safety for all road users.

The upgrade included the installation of a dedicated left-turn lane from Sturt Highway into Holder Top Road. Other works included asphalt resurfacing, new safety barriers and line marking, and upgraded LED lighting.

The junction upgrade formed part of the Australian and South Australian governments’ $87.5 million commitment (80:20) to upgrade the Sturt Highway between Renmark and Gawler, as part of the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative.

Upgrades to the Sturt Highway and Old Sturt Highway (West) junction, east of Barmera, and the Sturt Highway and Old Sturt Highway (East) junction, north of Berri are also being funded through the ROSI initiative.

Works are well advanced on these projects, which include upgrading both existing junctions to single-lane roundabouts, as well as asphalt resurfacing, new line marking, upgraded LED lighting and improved drainage.

Both junctions are now open to traffic as single-lane roundabouts, however traffic restrictions will remain in place at the eastern junction for several weeks as works continue. Works on the eastern junction are expected to be fully completed in late 2022, weather permitting.

Main works have been completed on the western junction, with minor finishing works expected to be completed in late September/early October 2022, weather permitting.

For the safety of road workers and all road users, speed and lane restrictions will be in place while these finishing works are undertaken.
