Take care on flood-affected roads this Easter and school holidays

Holidaymakers and tourists travelling on regional and outback roads over the Easter and school holiday break are reminded to regularly check conditions - and observe all traffic signage and advice - when driving through areas affected by heavy flooding earlier this year.  

The State’s road network continues to be repaired and re-opened to more vehicles after extensive flooding that occurred across the Eyre Peninsula and Far North from late January.

With traffic volumes expected to increase on some of these roads over the Easter holidays, all road users are reminded to take care and drive to the conditions.

Please continue to obey speed restrictions and other work zone signage, and always watch for road workers who are active along the road network undertaking priority repairs.

Work zone signage is in place in some locations to warn road users about potential hazards.

To check the latest information on road closures and restrictions before travelling, visit the Outback Roads website (dit.sa.gov.au/OutbackRoads) and Traffic SA (traffic.sa.gov.au).

The Department and its contractors have worked through difficult conditions to reopen the National Highway Network and many key outback roads to minimise disruptions to supplies and travellers.

However, some restrictions remain in place to ensure the safety of all road users.

The Department appreciates that works and road closures may cause delays for road users and is working closely with other agencies - including local councils, the Department for Environment and Water and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions - to safely repair and reopen key roads as quickly as possible.
