Safer Ride for Port Wakefield Road Users

Resurfacing works have commenced on Port Wakefield Road ensuring motorists will benefit from a safer and smoother ride.

As part of the $250 million Princess Highway Corridor Strategy, a further 3.9 kilometres of asphalt resurfacing works will be undertaken on Port Wakefield Road.

The $1.2 million Australian and South Australian government funded (80:20) works will improve road durability and safety for users.

The first section of works which will resurface a 2.8 kilometre section of the Adelaide bound lanes south of Dublin, between Old Port Wakefield and Carslake Roads commenced on Wednesday, 4 November 2020.

A second 1.1 kilometre section of the Adelaide bound lanes at Two Wells, between Mallala and Brooks Roads, will also be resurfaced, on completion of the first section. The works are expected to be completed by late November 2020. This follows asphalt rehabilitation works undertaken on these sections in June 2020.

Day works will be undertaken between 7am–5pm until Friday, 6 November. Night works are scheduled between 5pm–6am from 9-13 November. All works are Monday to Friday.

During the works on each section, traffic will be detoured onto the opposite carriageway, with both southbound and northbound traffic reduced to one lane in either direction.

Speed and lane restrictions will apply and road users are asked to use extra caution when workers are on site, follow the directions of traffic controllers and observe traffic signage and speed restrictions when travelling through the area.

Once the works are complete, speed restrictions will remain in place along the newly resurfaced section for approximately six weeks to enable excess bitumen to be worn to a safe level prior to reinstatement of the posted speed limit, weather permitting.

Eight sections on Port Wakefield Road totalling 23 kilometres were previously resurfaced between March and April 2020.
