Inner Ring Route pedestrian and cyclist safety upgrade

Pedestrians and cyclists will soon have the ability to safely cross over the Inner Ring Route on Park Road, between Melbourne Road and Park Terrace, as a result of a $510,000 safety upgrade.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will begin works on Tuesday, 27 August on the installation of a new Bicycle Pedestrian Actuated Crossing (BPAC) across Park Road, which has been funded by the South Australian Government.

The BPAC will allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross Park Road, just south of its junction with Melbourne Road, by pushing a button.

The crossing will enable cyclists riding south-bound on Park Road to safely exit the bicycle lane and cross both lanes of Park Road with the safety and assistance of the new BPAC, then continue onto Melbourne Road via the upgraded shared use path alongside Melbourne Road, between Park Road and Mann Road.

Some additional street lighting will be installed and the pram ramp at the corner of Simpson Street and Park Terrace will also be upgraded.

City-bound Bus Stop 5 on Park Road will be moved further south to improve safety.

The works are anticipated to take approximately four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Traffic management, lane and speed restrictions will be in place during the works. Road users are advised to follow the direction of traffic management staff and observe signage at all times.
