Way2Go bike education program applications open

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has opened applications for the 2019 Way2Go Bike Ed program for primary schools across the state.

The state-wide program, which is part of the broader Way2Go program, provides bicycle education for students aged 9-13 years (Years 4-7) and develops their confidence and competence as safe bike riders for travel to and from school.

The program caters for 8000 students across the state each year and is an important part of promoting more students to actively travel to school.

With on average two thirds of primary school students living within 2km of the school they attend being driven to school each day, the program helps them develop skills and confidence to ride to and from school more regularly.

Participating students gain an understanding of road and traffic environments and relevant road laws, develop physical skills and learn responsible behaviours and decision-making skills for the safe use of bikes on and off the road.

The program is tailored to individual schools and is inclusive of the range of students’ experience, skills and abilities.
