Seaford rail line & Cross Rd/South Rd intersection closed for upgrades
Wednesday, 24 January 2024
The Seaford line and Cross Road/South Road intersection will temporarily close this Australia Day long weekend to safely allow important improvement works to occur.
Seaford rail line temporary closure
The full Seaford/Flinders line will be closed over the Australia Day long weekend from 9pm Thursday, 25 January 2024 to last service Sunday, 28 January 2024, to undertake refurbishment and renewal works. The upgrades include rerailing, tamping, signalling works and timber sleeper replacement.
During the closure, the Noarlunga Railway Station escalators will be removed, in preparation for the installation of the new escalators in March, which will require a further partial line closure. Substitute buses will replace trains between Adelaide Railway Station and Seaford Railway Station during the January closure.
Resurfacing Cross Road/South Road intersection
While the Seaford rail line is closed during the Australia Day long weekend, the Department will also resurface the Cross Road and South Road intersection (under the overpass). These resurfacing works cannot be safely undertaken with trains operating in the Seaford rail corridor. Traffic will still be able to cross the South Road overpass when travelling north-south.
These works will be undertaken from 9pm Thursday, 25 January 2024, to 5am Monday, 29 January 2024, as part of broader network upgrades along and around the 10.5km stretch of the North-South Corridor, River Torrens to Darlington Project (T2D).
The works will include removing the existing pavement and replacing asphalt which will ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the busy intersection. Detours will be in place for motorists, heavy vehicles and some Adelaide Metro bus services. Passengers are encouraged to visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au to check their timetable in real time and plan their trip with the Adelaide Metro journey planner.
Upgrading Woodlands Park Railway Station
The Woodlands Park Railway Station is closed until late April 2024, to refurbish and update the platform.
Edwardstown Railway Station has become the new temporary transfer point for passengers, with express train services running between Adelaide Railway Station and Edwardstown Railway Station. A substitute bus service is operating between Woodlands Park and Edwardstown Railway stations to transport passengers to and from the stations.
