Traffic shift onto new bridge another milestone for the Port Wakefield Highway Duplication Project

Motorists travelling north from Port Wakefield can now drive over the new north-bound section of the Wakefield River Bridge, in another milestone for the $124.5 million Port Wakefield Overpass and Highway Duplication Project.

The traffic switch onto a north-bound lane of the new bridge, which was finalised on Tuesday night, is a great step forward for the project, which is on track for completion late 2022.

The traffic switch now allows work to be completed safely in the median. Once these works are complete, a second north-bound lane over the bridge is scheduled to be opened in late September (weather permitting), meaning all lanes in both directions are expected to be open in time for the October long-weekend.

Some other traffic restrictions will remain in place as work on the project continues.

Please take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area. Signage will be in place to alert motorists to the changed traffic conditions.

The project is being delivered by the Port Wakefield to Port Augusta (PW2PA) Alliance, a consortium of CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD, in alliance with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.

It is jointly funded 80:20 by the South Australian and Australian governments.
