Testing underway on Gawler rail line
Friday, 25 February 2022
Critical testing is continuing on the Gawler rail line as the electrification project enters its final stages.
Testing will include trains running intermittently along the new corridor from today, with diesel trains operating between Dry Creek and Gawler Central until Tuesday 1 March, and then running between Salisbury and Adelaide from Wednesday 2 March to Monday 7 March.
As testing commences, pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to take care around the rail network. Look both ways for trains and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Only cross at level crossings and at recognised pedestrian crossings. Don’t take shortcuts along or across the railway lines.
For those with children, please make sure they are aware of the dangers of electrical wires and they know not to play or walk near the train tracks.
During testing and commissioning activities, some temporary pedestrian detours may be necessary. Please observe signage and follow directions from traffic controllers if they are present.
Temporary level crossing and road closures
To safely undertake commissioning of the new signalling and overhead wiring infrastructure, some temporary level crossing and road closures will be required. There will also be some road closures, speed and lane restrictions in place.
- Cormack Road, Dry Creek level crossing will be closed today until 2am Saturday, 26 February
- Belford Avenue, Prospect level crossing will be closed today until 6am Saturday, 26 February
- Torrens Road, Ovingham level crossing will be closed from 6am Saturday, 26 February to 6am Sunday, 27 February
- Park Terrace, Salisbury level crossing will be closed from 6am Sunday, 27 February to 6am Monday 28 February. No pedestrian access across Park Terrace. Pedestrians directed to Brown Terrace.
There will be changes to some bus services. Please visit www.adelaidemetro.com.au for further information on detours, stop changes and timetables.
Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site.
