Works to commence on Marrabel Road to improve safety
Wednesday, 8 February 2023
Upgrades are being delivered along Marrabel Road in the Mid North to improve road safety and heavy vehicle productivity between Saddleworth and Eudunda.
The works, which began on 6 February, include replacing the culvert over Light River on Marrabel Road with a wider structure and upgrading the junction of Marrabel Road with Curio Road.
The junction upgrade will deliver new turning lanes at the Marrabel Road and Curio Road junction, as well as new safety barriers, service relocation and vegetation work.
The Australian Government has committed $5 million towards this $6.3 million project under its Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP), with the South Australian Government committing the remaining $1.3 million.
Project completion is expected in mid-2023, weather permitting.
To safely facilitate these works, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with temporary traffic signals in place to control the direction of traffic. Speed restrictions will also be in place throughout the work area for the duration of the project.
Road users are asked to please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.
