Port River Expressway weekend closure and detours
Friday, 24 May 2019
The Port River Expressway (PREXY) will be closed this weekend between Hanson Road and the South Road Superway in both directions, to allow for the demolition of the Craig Gilbert Bridge.
The closure will commence at 7pm on Friday, 24 May, and run continuously until 5am on Monday, 27 May to allow for the demolition.
Detours will be in place along Hanson Road, Grand Junction Road and the South Road Superway in both east and westbound directions.
The Craig Gilbert Bridge, which takes the South Road Superway over PREXY, is being demolished as part of construction works for the Southern Interchange, which when complete will link the Northern Connector, South Road Superway, PREXY and Salisbury Highway.
As part of the works, PREXY will be covered with a combination of specialised geotechnical fabric, steel plates and crushed rock to protect the road surface from damage as the bridge is demolished from overhead.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure thanks the public for its patience during this weekend closure, to ensure workers can complete the demolition works safely and efficiently.
