DPTI stands up for White Ribbon Day
Friday, 23 November 2018

DPTI is adding its voice to the many across Australia and the world calling for an end to men’s violence against women.
As a White Ribbon accredited workplace, DPTI is committed to encouraging staff and the broader community to speak out and act to prevent violence against women and to make visible their commitment to a violence-free workplace.
Staff are encouraged to show their support by taking the White Ribbon oath, which is available online.
DPTI Chief Executive Tony Braxton-Smith said he was committed to this important initiative.
“The issue of violence against women is a preventable tragedy in our society and it’s crucial that we all do our part to stop it,” Mr Braxton-Smith said.
“Signing the pledge is one way of demonstrating that commitment but it needs to be honoured in the workplace, at home and in public places.”
DPTI’s support for the White Ribbon cause is in line with its focus on highlighting the importance of inclusion and diversity. An Inclusion and Diversity Steering Committee and framework have been established to assist the organisation in taking a holistic view to diversity, and provide a platform for the workforce to subscribe to building an inclusive organisational culture.
“From White Ribbon Day to being inclusive and flexible, we need to think about how we conduct ourselves and how we connect with and treat others,” Mr Braxton-Smith said.
“Embracing and supporting the diversity within our organisation with respect and openness can only further enrich our workplace.”
Senior DPTI executives, DPTI White Ribbon Sponsor, Surveyor-General Michael Burdett and other representatives from DPTI’s inclusion and diversity groups attended a White Ribbon Breakfast on White Ribbon Day, to reinforce the department’s commitment to this cause.
You can also demonstrate your support by participating in the White Ribbon March on Saturday 24 November 2018 commencing at 10.00am at Parliament House.
The White Ribbon campaign is the largest global male-led movement to stop violence against women. Find advice on how to stop domestic violence and abuse here.
