Temporary closure of Outer Harbor, Port Dock and Grange rail lines

Friday, 27 December 2024

A temporary full closure of the Outer Harbor, Port Dock and Grange rail lines will be in place in early January 2025 to safely allow track maintenance, signalling works and a level crossing upgrade.

These works cannot be undertaken with trains operating in the rail corridor and have been carefully scheduled to minimise impacts on weekday passengers.

Substitute buses will service all stops affected by the temporary closure.

From 8pm Friday, 3 January to last service Sunday, 5 January, substitute buses will service all stops between Adelaide Railway Station and Outer Harbor, Grange and Port Dock stations.

Outer Harbor and Port Dock services will resume as normal from Monday morning (6 January). However, the Grange line will remain closed from first service to last service on Monday 6 January, with substitute buses servicing all stations between Woodville and Grange railway stations.

This additional day will allow enough time to safely complete the full renewal of the Tapleys Hill Road and Trimmer Parade level crossing, which will be closed to through traffic. Both roads will remain open to local traffic either side of the level crossing.

Detours will be in place for motorists, heavy vehicles and Adelaide Metro bus services travelling between the city, West Lakes and Port Adelaide. This will result in some missed stops on Trimmer Parade and Tapleys Hill Road.

The level crossing upgrade includes a new track formation, asphalting and the installation of rail, ballast and rail fasteners, improving track safety.

Commuters are being encouraged to plan their journey in advance and allow some extra time as the substitute bus service takes longer than the regular train service.

The rail line works being undertaken include replacing timber sleepers, signalling maintenance and cleaning drains.

Adelaide Metro thanks customers for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
