Driving instructor

You can be taught to drive by a friend or family member who is able to be a qualified supervising driver. Or you can have paid lessons with a qualified driving instructor. Sometimes, a combination of both is best.

A qualified instructor will:

  • charge a fee
  • have a driving instructor’s licence displayed
  • be properly insured.

Make sure the driving instructor you choose is properly qualified to conduct the training you need.

For more information about finding a driving instructor go to page 113 of The Driver's Handbook.

  • The Australian Government Keys2drive program provides learner drivers and their qualified supervising drivers a free driving lesson with an accredited professional driving instructor. Go to the Keys2drive website for more information.
