Younger drivers

Mum and baby

It takes time to become a safe driver.

That’s why you need a learner’s permit and a provisional licence before you get a full licence.

Be patient. Learn the road rules and spend as much time as you can with your qualified supervising driver.

The more practice you get, the better your driving will be.

The conditions applying to learner's permits and provisional licences are there to keep young drivers - and new drivers - safe.

  • Don't be tempted to show off in front of friends. Think about the consequences. You could be risking your own life, or the lives of your friends, by taking risks.
  • Young drivers are much more likely to crash when they have 2 or more people their own age in their car.
