Sustainability Commitment

We commit to achieving environmental, social and economic outcomes that will leave a positive legacy of sustainable and connected communities.

To achieve this, the T2D Project will:

  • foster future-ready and resilient infrastructure and communities
  • protect and enhance the local environment and communities
  • integrate and embed sustainability.

Foster future-ready and resilient infrastructure and communities

  • Ensure the design and construction considers and responds to projected changes to the local climate.
  • Include future-proofing considerations in the project’s design.
  • Deliver greening along the corridor to help mitigate the urban heat island effect.
  • Contribute to the South Australian Government target of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Protect and enhance the local environment and communities

  • Minimise pollution, incorporate measures to limit exposure, and follow legal requirements.
  • Manage resources efficiently across the infrastructure lifecycle, including energy, materials, water and waste. This is achieved by driving application of the waste hierarchy.
  • Conserve and enhance local ecology, heritage and culture. Positively contribute to the built environment.
  • Connect communities to new and existing services and recreational facilities. Promote active travel and public transport.
  • Promote social and economic outcomes, including:
    • promoting safety
    • developing skills and experience in the local workforce
    • supporting local businesses
    • driving market transformation.

Integrate and embed sustainability

  • Ensure the project's sustainability objectives, targets and requirements are measurable and effective. This will be based on assessing the project’s whole-of-life impacts.
  • Embed environmental, social, economic and value-for-money considerations into significant project decisions. This includes procurement.
  • Identify and action sustainability risks and opportunities in the supply chain.
  • Implement assurance systems to measure, track and correct sustainability performance. This will encourage outcomes that go beyond business as usual or compliance.
