Support for communities and businesses during infrastructure projects
We are always looking to minimise the impact our projects have on communities and businesses. Where impacts are likely, our teams will work with you to put support measures in place.
Communities
Sometimes a project might:
- change access to your neighbourhood
- cause additional noise
- have speed limits in place.
We work to minimise these impacts and notify you before we start. Where there is a significant or long-term impact our Engagement Team may contact you to:
- understand your needs
- work to minimise impacts.
For many projects you can register to receive regular email updates. Go to infrastructure projects to learn more.
Businesses
There may be times when the delivery of a project impacts your business. These impacts may include things like:
- parking restrictions
- road and footpath closures
- access changes
- detours.
If an impact on your business is likely, our Engagement Team will contact you to understand your business's needs. They’ll stay in touch during the project.
If you have questions you can contact us at any time.
Changes to road conditions around projects
Speed restrictions around road works and project sites are designed to keep road users and workers safe while works are underway. We know that delays to the regular flow of traffic can be frustrating for drivers. This is why we work closely with our Traffic Management Centre to carefully plan these changes and minimise interruption.
Restrictions when there are no workers on site
We must provide a safe environment for all road workers and road users. One way to do this is by lowering speed limits around roadworks and project sites that are hazardous to road users, even if no workers are there at the time.
Lower speed limits may be in place to:
- help drivers navigate changed or dangerous road conditions
- assist in the application of new line and road markings
- allow excess bitumen from newly laid road surface to wear away, lowering the risk of vehicles skidding on recently complete roads.
There are other times where reduced speed limits may apply around roadworks and project sites. At all times, these reduced speed limits are in place to keep you, our contractors and employees safe.
If incorrect speed limits remain in place
Companies responsible for traffic management during road and project works face fines if incorrect speed limit signage is in place when:
- work is not taking place
- there is no requirement from a safety perspective.
The fine could be up to $1,250 under the Road Traffic Act.
