Creating a safer street environment in Longwood Rd
Students at Heathfield High School in the Adelaide Hills created a colourful road mural to slow down traffic along Longwood Road in their school zone. The students designed and painted the mural with the help of street artist Matthew Stucky of Be Friendly Design.
The enthusiastic Heathfield High School and local residents got together to address concerns about traffic speeds in the area, particularly in the school zone. Poor visibility of the school due to the bend in the road was identified by the community as a contributing factor to the issue. Many ideas were explored and the group decided to paint a road pattern design as a visual marker to help better identify the school.
Heathfield High School students worked on developing the road pattern with assistance from artist Matthew Stucky. The design uses the school colours and includes themes with leaves and birds, capturing the Hills atmosphere.
Council will monitor speed/volumes along road to determine the impact of the road pattern over time.
This Living Neighbourhoods project was funded by DIT with support from the Adelaide Hills Council, and facilitated by Intermethod Pty Ltd with the participation of the local community.
