Creating a Living Neighbourhood on Roopena St
Roopena Street, Ingle Farm has a mixture of businesses, homes and community facilities. It was chosen as a Living Neighbourhoods’ project site because the local community was keen to improve road safety in the street.
The objectives of the project were to address concerns about traffic speeds and unsafe driving, and improving the amenity of the street.
A community task group worked on identifying opportunities to address these issues and decided to paint a series of five road murals, each with a theme that had meaning to the businesses and residents in the area.
A decrease in traffic speed of up to 2.6km/per hour was recorded one month later, compared with traffic speeds before the murals were painted. This will continue to be monitored.
The project was funded by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and supported by the City of Salisbury.
The Roopena Street mural painting day has been captured on the video below.
