Cycling and Pedestrian Improvements

We are delivering critical road safety upgrades and improvements on remote, regional, and urban roads, and footpaths and cycle paths around South Australia. The $168 million program is jointly funded by the Australian (50%) and South Australian (50%) Governments over three years.

The program has allocated $37 million for improvements to footpaths, cycleways and a number of new and upgraded Bicycle and Pedestrian Actuated (push-button) Crossings.

An analysis of pedestrian crashes over a five-year period (2018-2022) shows the majority (70%) of pedestrian lives lost and serious injuries occurred between intersections, with 3% of these occurring at pedestrian crossings. Actuated crossings will improve safety and accessibility for people crossing at those busy roads between intersections.
