About the project
We are delivering upgrades to the Stuart Highway to improve safety and reliability for all road users.
These upgrades will also improve freight productivity by reducing travel times for the delivering goods to businesses and the community, as well as reducing operating costs for commercial vehicles.
The upgrades will take place over 10 years, starting in 2023. It will include the resurfacing of roads and upgrades to junctions and rest areas.
What's happening
Completed works
Shoulder widening, pavement sealing, and audio tactile line marking (ATLM) installation between Yorkeys Crossing Road and Madland Street, Port Augusta. Completed December 2024.
Installed safety barriers south of Pimba. Completed August 2024.
Pavement rehabilitation works and road widening between Yorkeys Crossing Road and
Richardson Crescent. Completed mid 2024.
Shoulder and culvert works at various locations between Pimba and Coober Pedy. Completed November 2023.
Installation of safety barriers and associated shoulder works at multiple locations
between Port Augusta and Marla. Completed July 2023.Pavement reconstruction, road resurfacing and new line marking at the Stuart Highway and Madland Street junction, and the Stuart Highway, Eyre Highway and Augusta Highway junction, Port Augusta. Completed July 2023.
Pavement resurfacing, culvert and batter upgrades as well as new line markings between Port Augusta and the SA/NT border. Completed July 2023.
