A 19-year-old jetskier has been fined $595 after being spotted in the Victor Harbor restriction zone on an unregistered vessel.
On Thursday afternoon 22 May, the jet ski (Personal Watercraft) operator launched the vessel from the Granite Island Causeway boat ramp.
He then travelled within the restricted area in place from May 1 to September 30 each year to protect whales moving through Encounter Bay.
Within minutes three locals took photographs and reported the jetskier to the Marine Safety Officer from the region, Pat Sparks.
From the photos Pat was able to track down the jetski operator and owner.
He was fined $595 for riding in a restricted area and operating an unregistered vessel. The owner was cautioned for allowing a person to operate an unregistered vessel.
The restriction prohibits the operation of personal watercraft in waters off Victor Harbor from May 1 until September 30 each year.
