A new safety officer will begin work in Port Lincoln in the beginning of September in an effort to improve safety education and compliance in the area.
Hank Swalue, well known on the West Coast, following a 42-year career working for SA Police, will patrol the waters at Port Lincoln and along the West Coast.
He is looking forward to working with the community to increase the understanding of safety on the water and how it can save lives.
“I am looking forward to starting and putting in every effort to prevent tragedies that have occurred along our South Australian coast in recent times,” he said.
“I see a large part of my role on the West Coast as one of education, continually reinforcing boating safety.”
Following retirement from SAPOL, Hank broadened his experience on the water working in the tuna and pilchard industries checking quotas and ensuring compliance with endangered species regulations.
If you see Hank on the water please say g’day and feel free to ask any boating questions you may have.
