Boat owners are advised to take care when refuelling their tote tank.
Tote tanks are portable tanks used for smaller outboard engines where boats do not have built in tanks.
When filling always take the tote tank out of the boat and make sure the area is well ventilated to avoid a build up of explosive fumes.
Avoid refuelling on the water unless it is necessary. If you must do it use a siphon hose and funnel to refuel safely.
After refuelling leave the boat well ventilated for at least 30 minutes to reduce the risk of fire.
For more details see page 38 and 39 of the South Australian recreational boating handbook.
