Boaties fishing at night are reminded of the dangers of operating without lights.
Safety officers are encountering a number of vessels not lit up while operating at night, particularly near Port Bonython.
The area is a restricted zone, however vessels are free to operate outside of this zone.
The deep waters attract a lot of fishers, however many are taking risks.
Lights must be operating from sunset to sunrise. Power driver vessels under 12 metres long while underway must display:
- an all-round white light and side lights,or
- masthead light, sternlight and sidelights.
Recreational vessels at anchor must display an all-round white light. There are different requirements for smaller or larger vessels. For all details go to the navigation lights page on sa.gov.au
