Fires close to Katarapko Creek

28 January 2014

As a result of fire damage in the area and burning redgums along the banks, the Katarapko Creek will be closed between Campsite 3 and Campsite 30 until further notice for the safety of the community.

Katarapko Creek runs from Pyap (on the river proper) to approximately three kilometres below Lock 4, with some redgums in the area burning and falling into the creek, posing a significant risk to the public and navigational hazards.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) urge the community to avoid this area, particularly as it is a popular spot for small vessels, canoes and kayaks during the current school holiday season.

An emergency Notice to Mariners has been issued.
