Safety patrols over the Easter break found more than 20 per cent of all vessels didn’t comply with safety regulations.
Over the four days Transport Safety Compliance Officers checked 227 boats and found 52 didn’t meet regulations.
The major areas of concern were missing safety equipment, expired flares, unregistered vessels and incorrect use of navigation lights.
The officers handed out six expiation notices and cautioned 41 boats in waters around Adelaide, Goolwa, Renmark, Murray Bridge and the Yorke Peninsula.
Patrols will continue over the winter months.
