Have your say on the options for the introduction of fish possession limits before Friday 28 October 5pm.

Possession limits are being considered to limit the maximum number of fish that anyone may have in their possession or control in prescribed circumstances. Similar limits are in place in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia.

The State Government has released an options paper discussing the introduction of possession limits.

The release of the paper follows reports of interstate visitors travelling to regions such as Eyre Peninsula to take and stockpile large quantities of fish, especially during holiday periods.

Possession limits can be a useful tool in preventing such stockpiling and controlling high levels of localised fishing, which promotes stock sustainability and reduces the risk of localised depletion.

The options paper has been prepared following a first round of consultation between Department of Primary Industries and Resources of South Australia (PIRSA) and other key stakeholders.

As part of the consultation, public meetings have been held during October.

Copies of the options paper are available at from the PIRSA website.

Submissions must be received by no later than 5pm on Friday, October 28.
