A spate of boat and motor thefts in the state’s south east over summer has highlighted the importance of the Bode Code identification system.
In the last few months more than $120,000 in vessels and motors have gone missing.
In late February a blue and white 4.5-metre boat with a half cabin was stolen from Southend, along with a grey boat trailer.
The Savage boat with a 90hp Mercury motor and trailer, worth $11,500, were left unsecured in a driveway.
Earlier in the month a 6.2 metre Haines Hunter with 200hp Honda outboard and trailer worth $100,000 were stolen from Beachport.
A Mercury 200hp outboard motor valued at $20,000 was also taken from a boat at Robe.
In another incident this summer, a motor and equipment were stolen from a boat that washed up near Beachport, while the occupants were stranded.
Boat owners can help secure their vessel by ensuring it has a Boat Code. The unique identification system can assist with tracking and recovering a boat if stolen.
