Following a positive community meeting on 15 May the department is now working towards opening Lake Bonney SE to human powered vessels by October.
Fifteen representatives from the community were at the meeting held in the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre.
During the meeting the community discussed access to the lake, dealing with submerged objects and the compatibility of hunting and boating.
The group unanimously voted to continue to progress opening the lake and the department is working towards opening it to human powered vessels by October.
Lake Bonney SE is a coastal lake approximately 450 km south east of Adelaide and close to the township of Millicent.
It was closed to the public in the 1980’s following concerns about contaminated water and the hazards posed by logs stored in the water following the Ash Wednesday fires.
