Monday, 3 August 2020

HARBORS AND NAVIGATION ACT 1993

SOUTH AUSTRALIA – PORT ADELAIDE – BIRKENHEAD BRIDGE – UPGRADE WORKS – VESSEL TRAFFIC CLOSURE

Mariners are advised that the Department for Infrastructure and Transport will be upgrading the Birkenhead Bridge at Port Adelaide to ensure the bridge’s long term structural integrity and safety for all users.

The works include replacing the timber roadway deck with a Fibre Reinforced Polymer deck, and the eastern timber footpath with an aluminium footpath.  Works will also include associated steel protection works, bitumen surfacing and line marking.

To complete these works safely and efficiently, vessels will not be permitted to pass under the Birkenhead Bridge from Monday 3 August 2020 until late October 2020, weather permitting.  The extended marine closure will enable the project team to establish a working platform and all environmental controls ahead of works on the bridge deck.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport should be contacted at dpti.communityrelations@sa.gov.au or telephone 1300 794 880 for further information or to receive construction updates.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution in the area.
