Safety improvement for Gorge Road

26 February 2019

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will be improving safety for motorists on Gorge Road with the installation of audio tactile line marking on the road centreline, between Lower North East Road, Campbelltown and Tippett Road, Chain of Ponds, from Thursday, 28 February.

Audio tactile line marking is an effective countermeasure against single vehicle runoff road crashes in Australia and overseas. It is commonly used to alert fatigued drivers to their position on the road and has also been used to encourage lane discipline in inclement weather conditions.

Works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday from Thursday, 28 February to Friday, 15 March, weather permitting.

The road will remain open, with traffic restricted to one lane under traffic control when required and a 25km/h speed restriction while workers are on site. Other speed restrictions may apply subject to onsite conditions.

The safety of workers and the general public is paramount so please take care when travelling through work zones.

The $166,000 safety initiative is funded by the State Government’s Improved Metro Roads Program.

DPTI thanks motorists for their patience while these important safety works are carried out.
