DPTI employees are being encouraged to look out for each other as ‘Rail R U OK? Day’ is marked across Australia on 12 April.

The special day shines a light on the importance of asking "Are you okay" of those around us, and listening carefully to the answer.

R U OK? Chief Executive Officer Brendan Maher said the aim was to encourage more rail employees to start a conversation with a colleague and check in on anyone they’re worried about.

"Asking, 'Are you OK?' can start a conversation that might be life-changing for a workmate or a loved one," Mr Maher said.

To mark Rail R U OK Day?, DPTI has produced a video featuring employees talking about the importance of being honest with each other and keeping an eye out for anyone who might be doing it tough at work or at home.
