Temporary Belair rail line closure for essential works
18 December 2017
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that a full rail closure will take place on the Belair line from Wednesday 27 December until Friday 29 December to allow for essential works.
The closure is timed to coincide with quieter periods on the rail network, with substitute buses replacing all services.
Train services on the Belair rail line will resume from first service Saturday 30 December 2017.
Essential works are needed to maintain the long-term usage and safety of the Belair line, with the Christmas period chosen to reduce inconvenience to the public with many commuters on holiday.
Works being undertaken on the Belair line by DPTI include:
- replacement of the pedestrian subway roof below the ARTC line at Torrens Park Railway Station
- replacement of station tactiles at Unley Park Station
- maintenance works on the bridge at Main Road, Belair
- other general maintenance / vegetation works.
DPTI has coordinated the full closure of the Belair line to coincide with a shutdown of the parallel freight track operated by Australian Rail Track Corporation, which will be undertaking maintenance works on the adjacent ARTC rail line.
A dedicated bus with a bike trailer will run daily for those commuters requiring this service.
There will be signage directing the public to the appropriate substitute buses to help lessen the inconvenience to passengers.
