Plan your event and AFL Grand Final travel this weekend to avoid delays
29 September 2017
With unprecedented demand expected on the road network this long weekend due to a large number of people attending major events and AFL Grand Final functions, road users are urged to plan their travel ahead of time to avoid delays.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that, in addition to the large volume of long weekend holiday traffic, a number of planned major and minor road works and road closures will also be in place that will impact travel to, from and around Adelaide this weekend.
Major road works underway this long weekend will include:
- Major traffic restrictions (including lane, right and left turn restrictions and the removal of on-street parking) in place along North Terrace from 1 October to 16 October 2017, weather permitting, to facilitate major construction works for the $80 million City Tram Extension project.
- The closure of Port Road at the South Road intersection, and South Road (southbound) between Forster Street and Port Road, from 8pm Friday 29 September to 6am Tuesday 3 October 2017, weather permitting, for pavement and asphalt reinstatement works as part of the $896 million Torrens to Torrens project.
DPTI has coordinated the program of major and minor works to minimise the impact to the community where possible, however road users are likely to experience delays.
Visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au to plan your travel ahead of time and avoid affected areas. Remember to allow additional travel time where possible to ensure you reach your destination safely and on time.
