Consultation begins for Morphettville Racecourse

Proposed rezoning at the Morphettville Racecourse is now open for public consultation.

The rezoning process (The Morphettville Racecourse Development Plan Amendment (DPA)) commenced in 2016 to investigate potential development opportunities for this land alongside the Morphettville Race Course activities.

The proposed policy amendments would enable mixed-use medium to high density residential living and employment, taking advantage of the close proximity of the Glenelg Tramway, Anzac Highway and pedestrian/cycle networks, allowing easy access to the City and Glenelg.

The policy will support and enhance Morphettville Racecourse as South Australia’s premier thoroughbred racing facility and multipurpose venue for events.

The Racecourse has the opportunity to provide additional multi-use activities on seven hectares of land that is now available due to the provision of the new inner track and changes in horse keeping and stabling.

It will promote a range of housing options, together with entertainment and recreation opportunities to enable for a diverse and inclusive community.

Development will provide for buildings up to 12 storeys around a public plaza that will intersect with a new tram stop to service both residents, visitors and racegoers.

A range of land uses including shops, offices and tourist accommodation will provide for a vibrant and stimulating environment, made attractive with landscaping, public art and pedestrian/cycle paths.

Public consultation closes on 3 November 2017.
